The heart health check
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in Australia. Many heart attacks and strokes can be prevented through healthy behaviours like following a heart-healthy eating pattern, being active, maintaining a healthy weight and being smoke-free.
Many people may not know their risk of developing heart disease, especially since you often can't feel risk factors like high blood pressure and cholesterol.
1.4 million Australians have a high chance of having a heart attack or stroke in the next 5 years. Many are unaware of the risk!
A heart health check is a free check-up of your overall health; it will tell us if you are at risk of getting certain health problems later in life, such as:
- Heart Disease
- Stroke
- Diabetes
If you are aged over 30-74 years old you are generally eligible for one.
The check takes 20-30 minutes and usually includes:
1. Measuring your height and weight
2. Blood Pressure Test
3. Blood Test
Its National Heart Week 5th May - 12th May
Heart Week is Australia’s national heart health awareness week held in May each year. It provides an opportunity for the Australian public and health professionals to start a conversation about heart health and take positive steps to reduce their heart disease risk.
